Hello to all,
This week I want to discuss burnout. We have all heard and talked about burnout over the past year and a half. It's been at the forefront of many of our conversations. Burnout is an "occupational phenomenon" as per the World Health Organization. The three major signs of burn out are:
1. Exhaustion
2. Feelings of cynicism and/or detachment
3. Sense of ineffectiveness or lack of accomplishment
Even if you love your job, you can experience burnout. A few steps you can do to boost your resilience and combat burnout are:
Remind yourself why you got involved in healthcare in the first place. Remembering how much it means to help others and have an impact on their lives, helps build resilience.
Look to role models who practice self-care. It will help you develop your own self-care habits during a shift and at home. Whether it is getting a few minutes of fresh air or one of my favorites, unplugging, develop your own self-care habits.
You can't practice self-care unless you schedule it. Make it part of your every day, whether at work or at home. You need to restore yourself before you can effectively care for others.
Stay safe. Have a great week! Enjoy this week's healthy recipe!
