Hello to all,

On Mother's Day. I want to share my favorite C with you. No, I don't mean "sea". I mean the fifth "C" from Stress First Aid's 7 Cs. That "C" is for connect. In Stress First Aid, connect is important in helping someone de-escalate from a stressful stimulus. It can be in the form of just being there, or listening empathetically. Social connection is not only restorative under stressful situations, it is actually protective of wellbeing in general. Multiple studies dating back more than twenty years have substantiated this finding. Social relationships have been correlated with a 50% increased likelihood of survival. It is thought that relationships buffer the negative effects of stress on health. In fact, lack of social connection can cause more harm to your health than obesity, smoking or high blood pressure. Other health benefits of social connectedness include a more robust immune response, and quicker recovery from disease. On this Mother's Day, enjoy a day connecting with those you love.

Stay safe! Have a great week!

Best,

Dr. Heidi Levine
