Hello to all,
This week's topic is moral injury. Moral injury is when you are exposed to events that violate your own code of ethics. It can be due to lack of resources, shifting protocols, etc. In these situations, it is important to give yourself a break. By that I mean you have to realize that you are doing your best, and even if you don't think your care matters, it makes a world of difference to the people we help. It's important for us to build moral resilience when under these circumstances, and keep our perspective on the things we can control. One way to take care of ourselves is to practice mindfulness. It has been shown to decrease stress, anxiety, fear and feelings of helplessness. Even one minute of mindful breathing can have a strong impact on your well-being and allow you to be positive in a healthy way. Try using the Virgin Pulse app, Headspace or Calm. You'll feel the difference.
Try the yummy chocolate truffle recipe attached above for your holiday meal!
If you are feeling down, try one of Northwell's many free and confidential supports attached above. We all could use a little help sometimes.
Stay safe and have a great week!
Best,
Dr. Heidi Levine
