Andrew Mastanduono, MD MSEd FACEP
Program Director
Dr. Andrew Mastanduono is the Residency Program Director and an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell Health. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Fordham University with a major in Biological Sciences and a minor in Music. After graduation, Dr. Mastanduono studied medicine at Stony Brook University School of Medicine.
Dr. Mastanduono completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel in New York City. While in residency, he spent much of his time dedicated to educating medical students through conferences and simulation sessions and workshops, as well as serving on the Residency Education Committee and House Staff Committee representing Emergency Medicine for all three years. Upon graduation from residency, the MSBI ED awarded Dr. Mastanduono the Barbara Ann Carol Award for excellence in medical care and compassion towards patients and their families.
After graduation, Dr. Mastanduono joined Northwell Health as clinical staff and faculty at Long Island Jewish Medical Center and Huntington Hospital. He became actively involved in the Emergency Medicine Residency, lecturing residents and teaching simulation sessions. In 2018, Dr. Mastanduono was awarded the Faculty Teacher of the Year Award by the Northwell Emergency Medicine Residency at LIJ/North Shore. During his time at Northwell, Dr. Mastanduono has also served on the Heart Failure Task Force to decrease hospital admissions for heart failure as well as the Performance Improvement Committee at LIJ. In the summer of 2019, Dr. Mastanduono was selected to participate in the New Speaker Forum at NYACEP in Lake George, NY. Dr. Mastanduono is also an Assistant Professor at the Hofstra School of Graduate Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies where he serves as a preceptor for NP students. His research interests lie mainly in Medical Education, ED Efficiency, and Medical Communication.
Dr. Mastanduono came to South Shore in 2018 to help launch the emergency medicine residency as the inaugural APD. Since then, he has spearheaded multiple educational initiatives, received the South Shore University Hospital Attending of the Year Award in 2020, Northwell Health Teacher of the Year Award in 2022, and Emergency Medicine Residency Faculty Mentor of the Year award in 2023. He helped launch the Transitional Year Residency Program as the inaugural APD in 2023. In 2024 he graduated from Hofstra University with a Masters in Education for Health Professions. In July 2025, Dr. Mastanduono was tasked with leading the South Shore Emergency Medicine Residency Program as the Program Director.
Dr. Mastanduono is a native Long Islander, proud dad of two, avid basketball fan, and amateur cook.
