Visiting Student Rotations

Our Emergency Department at South Shore Univeristy Hospital is an official designated medical student teaching site through the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
Visiting fourth–year medical students are invited to apply for elective rotations offered by each of the clinical departments of the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.
All students attending US LCME accredited medical schools or COCA accredited AACOM member colleges are required to use the AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities service (VSLO) to apply for Zucker School of Medicine rotations. Students from Ben Gurion and Sackler are invited to apply through a special application that can be obtained from their school.
Why rotate at SSUH?
The Emergency Department (ED) at South Shore University Hospital is a community based tertiary care hospital in Bay Shore, NY with approximately 84,000 visits annually, and high levels of acuity. The ED is staffed by board certified emergency physicians. The ED is an American College of Surgeons verified Level II trauma center. We are also an American Heart Association award winning stroke and STEMI center. Our department is a 911 ground and FAA approved air transport receiving hospital. The recently expanded department is designed with numerous critical care areas as well as a robust trauma bay equipped with instruments in ultrasound, ECMO, advanced airway equipment, and neonate resuscitation to handle the wide variety of highly complex cases. Our experienced teaching faculty will supervise the student on the identification and treatment of critical medical, surgical and traumatically injured adult and pediatric patients with an emphasis on resuscitations and critical care.
